The Deaconess Medical Center College volunteers program focuses on students who are enrolled in pre-medical, nursing, pharmacy, and/or students interested in pursuing a career in the healthcare environment. This opportunity allows the student career exploration.

Purpose of the Program

The student observes the knowledge and skills used everyday working side by side with healthcare professionals. The student gives service without receiving payment, understanding the direct impact volunteering has for the organization and the benefit it may have toward their future career choices. The organization and fellow co-workers support the College volunteer program. They understand the value this important program represents to our future generation of caregivers.

Application/Interview

Students are considered based on their application, references, screenings, and a formal interview with Volunteer Services. Applications must include a letter of reference from a college professor, character reference, UNOFFICIAL College transcript and verification of MMR (Rubella/Rubeola) measles immunizations. Applications are accepted on a continual basis and are dated when received. Applicants are interviewed based on the date received, session rotation and available openings in the program. If openings become available, you will be contacted for a formal interview prior to the next session rotation.

A Year-Round Program

The college volunteer/intern program is a year - round program. It rotates fall, winter, spring and summer. This allows potential applicants to be considered for possible program openings as well as enables active volunteers to experience other departments.

WINTER Program 2003 Application Deadline: Thursday, January 2, 2003 Mandatory Orientation: Thursday, January 16, 2003 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Deaconess Medical Center The program begins the week of January 20th and ends Friday, March 21st. SPRING Program 2003 Application Deadline for Spring Session: Thursday, March 13, 2003 Mandatory Orientation: Thursday, March 27, 2003 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Deaconess Medical Center The program begins the week of March 31st and ends Friday, June 6th SUMMER Program 2003 Application Deadline for Summer Session: Thursday, June 12, 2003 Mandatory Orientation: Thursday, June 26, 2003 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Deaconess Medical Center The program begins the week of June 30th and ends Friday, August 22nd FALL Program 2003 Application Deadline for Fall Session: Thursday, September 18, 2003 Mandatory Orientation: Thursday, October 2, 2003 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Deaconess Medical Center The program begins the week of October 6th and nds Friday, December 12th Only college volunteers who are interviewed and accepted in the program attend Orientation.
